Conference & Paper Sessions Hosted by Urban Transportation Data Committee

This page summarizes the "paper sessions" and "conference sessions" hosted by the Urban Transportation Data Committee for the 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003 TRB Annual Meetings. Paper sessions are formal program sessions during which three to five committee-reviewed papers are presented. Conference sessions have an entirely different purpose from paper sessions in that they are - usually confined to a very specific subject; will usually have no formal papers; often consist of short and informal presentations; may involve reports of research in progress; and may involve discussion of problems to determine if research is needed and to seek possible ways of finding solutions.

In addition to paper sessions and conference sessions, we host an annual committee meeting to which all members and friends of the committee are invited to attend. Committee meetings provide a valuable opportunity for colleagues to share information about new activities and ongoing research efforts, as well as to lay out the future course of activities for the committee.

Stacey G. Bricka, NuStats International, presiding
Sponsored by Committee on Urban Transportation Data and Information Systems

This workshop is sponsored by the Subcommittee on Census Data for Transportation Planning, the Committee on Urban Transportation Data and Information Systems, and the Committee on Statewide Transportation Data and Information Systems. The Census Bureau is requesting funding to begin the full implementation of the American Community Survey (ACS) in 2003. Since the ACS is intended to take the place of the decennial census long form, this workshop will serve as a forum to update the transportation community on the status of the ACS program, the outlook for implementation, and recent research efforts to begin the process of replacing the long-form data with continuous measurement in transportation planning and research. At the same time, this workshop is designed to inform officials and policy makers of the needs and issues as seen by the transportation community. Potential users of the ACS will be provided an opportunity to voice concerns, raise questions, and formulate a research agenda that will serve to ensure a smooth transition from the long form to the ACS.
